In
the past, environmental issues were associated with
natural resources and economic issues were associated
with human activity. Advances in science, however,
have led us to the understanding that environmental,
economic, and even social issues are more interdependent
than we realized and require a system’s
thinking approach. One of the central
challenges of the 21st century is how to achieve a
more sustainable
relationship between people and the environment, starting
today!
Sustainability Now! (SN) introduces the
concepts, tools, and practices of Sustainable Development
(SD) to communities and groups while assisting
them to identify their core values and societal
goals, advance their shared visions and desires,
solve problems, empower stakeholders, and promote
social learning to cooperatively advance sustainability.
SN engages neighborhood associations, community
development organizations, businesses, governmental
agencies (local, regional, national, and international),
social justice advocates, planners and architects,
environmentalists, bankers, and faith-based organizations
to network in making decisions and setting policy
toward sustainable development that will contribute
to the overall well-being of ecosystems and humans
within a bioregional or watershed context.
Through its mission Sustainability
Now!:
- increases
awareness for the concept and work of sustainable
development;
- informs
individuals and groups about the interdependencies
among environmental,
economic, and social equity
concerns;

science to facilitate the efforts of communities
in conservation-based
development and civil governance
problem-solving; and
- influences
change in social behavior that will lead to
a more
sustainable
society
world-wide.
Sustainability
Now! is able to provide both visionary
inspiration and pragmatic science-based understanding
for the enhancement of sustainability in any community.
