The
Blue Lagoon Restoration & Sustainable Community
Development Summit (2010) was held at the Goblin
Hill Hotel Conference Center on Saturday, November
20, 2010.
A total of 78 people attended the Summit, which included
community stakeholders and government officials.
The
Summit was preceded by 6 days of community consultation
in
Portland Parish with local stakeholders. The Sustainable
Community Development (SCD) Jump-Team formed to evaluate
sustainable development potential in the Portland region
of Jamaica interviewed 116 individuals in the
community markets,
their places of businesses, at the churches, along the
street, at the fishing beaches, in the cafes and shops,
and in scheduled meetings. During these interviews the
Team was able to obtain community perspectives on needed
socio-economic improvements and environmental management
for communities in Portland. This information coupled
with the issues of concern and potential solutions offered
by Summit participants on Saturday, November 20, 2010
has provided the Portland SCD Jump-Team with sufficient
data to integrate into the design of “Next
Steps” for
Portland toward Blue Lagoon Restoration and Sustainable
Community Development of surrounding towns and villages.
We would welcome your comments on the Next Step strategies
offered for Portland Parish efforts toward sustainable
community development. Contact
